General Information

Q: Are other over-the-counter pain relievers more effective than ASPIRIN?
A: No. Nothing is proven stronger than ASPIRIN for headaches. And not only is ASPIRIN highly effective for pain relief, it offers other preventative benefits due to its active ingredient ASA.

Q: Is all ASA the same?
A: The active ingredient in ASPIRIN is ASA but there are also non-medicinal ingredients. An active ingredient combined with the appropriate adjuvants must be at the right place at the right time in the right quantity for the best effect. Bayer has over 100 years of experience, extensive pharmaceutical know-how and competence in the manufacture of a consistently high-quality product.

Q: Is ASPIRIN well tolerated?
A: ASPIRIN has been used effectively by millions of people for over 100 years. There has been a lot of publicity surrounding the use of ASPIRIN and stomach upset. However, the majority of people have no trouble taking ASPIRIN and for those who do experience stomach upset, it is generally short-term.

ASPIRIN can be taken with many prescription drugs. Ask your doctor or health care professional before taking any over-the-counter pain relief product if you are already taking other medications. This is especially important to do if you are on ASPIRIN for doctor-supervised preventative therapy.

Q: How likely is stomach upset?
A: Based on clinical esearch, only a small number of individuals (5%) who use ASPIRIN have experienced stomach upset. You should always take ASPIRIN with a full glass of water and taking ASPIRIN with food may also help. People who experience stomach irritation should ask their doctor whether an enteric coated product or buffered product might help reduce stomach-related side effects. The enteric coating prevents disintegration of the tablet in the stomach, cutting down on direct irritation to the stomach lining.

Q: Does Bayer offer any “buffered ASA” forms?
A: A small percentage of individuals may occasionally experience stomach upset with ASA. Buffered ASA products neutralize stomach acid by raising the PH, ASPIRIN with Stomach Guard* contains calcium carbonate and other buffering ingredients.

Q: What is meant by "micro-coating"?
A: Micro-coating refers to the film coating on the ASPIRIN tablet and caplet. This very thin coating makes the tablet easier to swallow for those who have difficulty swallowing uncoated tablets and caplets.

Q: What is meant by “enteric coating”?
A: Enteric coating is a delayed-release safety coating. It is designed to allow the ASPIRIN tablet or caplet to pass through the stomach to the small intestine (duodenum) before dissolving.

Products with enteric coating are not recommended for quick pain relief; enteric-coated ASPIRIN is most often used by patients who are taking ASPIRIN on a daily basis under their doctor’s supervision or recommendation.
